Things To Keep In Mind When Promoting Your Blog Through Comments
Many bloggers use to leave comments in someone else's blog to promote their blogs. That's not a bad idea. If you post a comment on some article with a link back to your blog you may have at least one visit. But between promotion and spam there's a fine line so here is a short list of things to keep in mind if you want to promote your blog using comments:

- Say something relevant: I've seen lots of comments just saying "visit my blog" or even worse, some posts comments saying nothing. Most people will consider such comments as spam. If you have never seen this type of comment is because most bloggers delete them as soon as they read them. Even if those comments were not deleted, few follow a link on a stupid comment.
- Be polite: You can express any idea politely, even if you disagree with the author. Politeness is a sign of intelligence. You may possess the absolute truth, but some people will not trust in someone talking rudely. So, it's better to be polite if you want to attract readers to your blog.
- Use controversy sparingly: While most people enjoy a good discussion based on interesting ideas really few of them likes stupid controversy. If you create controversy where none exists you may attract some traffic but few regular readers.
- Consider TrackBack: Have a long comment? post it in your own blog and notify the author with a TrackBack ping. It's like posting a comment on your own blog with a side effect, people have to visit your blog to read the comment. Most blogging tools have support for TrackBack.

Good comments are allways welcome, but I'm receiving spam too
Shaun:
Right! :-)

You're right, but a comment posting campaign may not be the best way to promote your blog
Wizard:
I'm considering to disable it. Verification words (captchas) are not enough for stopping spammers

BTW - was led to yr blog by blogger.com 'recently spotted blogs of interest' - so thanks to them also
My comment is greatly ironic, however. Not only does my blog have NOTHING to do with yours, but I'm committing the same "online etiquette" blunder that you so nicely explained for us...just below...

The vast majority of blog spam seems to come from bots, as far as I can tell. Then again, readership of my blogs is so small that I can pretty much tell exactly what people are reading based on my site stats :P

And I'm not commenting just to promote my blog. ;) I like giving credit where its due.

Verification word (aka captcha) is good to reduce spam, but it's intended to test if the commenter is human so it doesn't stop human spammers.
To Id it is:
Yes, blogging a way to make friends. On the other hand, if you are a blogger you may want have many readers. Some bloggers do it for money too. Promotion is a part of blogging
I appreciate your views. At the same time, I feel that for people who start blogging initially, there is a real thrill with the feeling of getting the whole world interested in making oneself known and less importantly heard.
The difference lies in the fact is that too many people knowing you is not enough. Rather have people who listen to you and look forward to what one has to say.
I liked your ideas and am happy to say, that even bookmarked this page for future reading.
Cheers and keep up the insightful work.

More Indian Users means more comments maybe because of our Democratic Nature.
My blogs are all attracting more non Indian traffic mostly and they dont get many comments. The occasional comment I get is from Indian users Makes me proud though. (like http://boilkerala.blogspot.com)
My low volume blogs like
http://indiainteresting.blogspot.com
recived no comment at all. even though many visited. No comments means you have no idea what people think about your content and that inturn means if the content is bad it doesnt give scope of improvement.
Another thing is that am not trying to get rich with adsense or anything but still this is something i noticed
I installed adsense on my blog just for the sake of it guess what non Indian blogger actualy click on it. Having advance loggin installed on my blog i find that they are actualy using it to navigate to other similar information sources (Histats.com) But i havent got a single click from an Indian IP. Maybe we think that those are just manipulative ads(mostly arent). But true that some of the Adwords ads that i see (From india) are just manipulitive you know like make money quick and all.May be its time that google removed such ads from its network and show only legitimate ads.
Any blogger feels happy to get comments its like knowing that some body thinks bad or good something about the work you have done.
