Playing flv Videos is Easier for Xubuntu Users
If you have downloaded YouTube videos you know that they are in flv file format. That is the format of flash video files. Most websites offering internet video downloads recommend you to get some flv player. Well, watching downloaded flash videos in Xubuntu (or any other Linux distribution, I guess) is so easy that you don't have to do anything special, provided you can play restricted formats. Both Gxine and Mplayer support that format.
Yes, you can play directly your downloaded videos. No conversion needed. No special player needed. Just download the video and play it in your favorite player.

If you are a Xubuntu user and you want to play flv files by double clicking on them you have to associate that file type with some application:
- Open Thunar File Manager
- Right click on any flv file
- Select "Open With Other Application..." from the pop up menu
- Select your preferred player (for example Gxine or Mplayer). Leave the "Use by default for this kind of file" option box checked near the bottom of the dialog
- Click on the open button
